Born in Humacao, Puerto Rico, in 1974, Jose has been performing on percussion instruments since he was five years old. Inspired by family members he began learning to play bongos and by age 9 he started playing with Trio Los Orientales. At age 10 he was accepted in to a Music only middle / high school, where he learned to read music with professor Jose "Tito" Rivera.

At age 12, he started playing with Humacao Symphonic Band under the direction of Professor German Peña Plaza. With the Humacao Symphonic Band, Jose traveled to Venezuela, New York, Costa Rica, Virgin Islands and Dominican Republic.

At age 14, he was taking percussion lessons with Professor Jose "Pepe" Torres.  Under Torres coaching, Jose performed with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and with a variety of local bands. At the age of 15, he performed with a jazz big band named "Taller Pueblo", which was under the direction of his cousin Mariano Rodriguez.

At age 17 he was accepted into the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music where he studied percussion with Professor Jose Alicea. Under Alicea's coaching, Jose played as a soloist for the America youth symphony orchestra based in San Juan, PR. Also at age 18, he joined a band named "The Wild Bunch" which whom he traveled through South America and the Caribbean.

At the age of 19, Jose moved to Orlando, Florida; while in Orlando, Jose played as a Percussionist for Christian recording artist Gerson Kelly and also did studio work for local bands. He later moved to Miami, where he attended the University of Miami and Florida International University, where he study percussion with Professor Steve Rucker, Professor Randy Kuehn and Professor Hector ”Pocho” Neciosup.  While at the University of Miami and the Florida International University, he performed with artists such as Bobby Cruz, Arturo Sandoval, Nestor Torres, Paquito D'Rivera, Tito Puente, Danilo Montero, Marcos Barrientos, Ricardo Rodriguez, Mike Orta, Gary Campbell, Grupo Nueva Vida and The Promise Keepers worship band. In 1999, he moved back to Orlando, FL where he performed with several local bands. He is currently a freelance studio musician.  His current coach is Professor Hector "Pocho" Neciosup.  For the past eight years, Jose has been an active musician, teacher and clinician throughout the United States, Latin America and Puerto Rico area.
